Fashion tells the world your story March 18, 2019February 28, 2019 Mo Mulchandani The clothes we wear, the vibrancy of the colors that we flaunt and the fashion trends we display showcase little pieces about our life story to the world before we even get a chance to speak about it. For example, look at what you’re wearing right now. Perhaps you’ve draped on a form-fitted blazer, paired with a soft, delicate dress shirt (ironed of course) with some genuine leather, designer loafers — this clothing combination tells your peers that you’re confident in your appearance and also suggests that you thoughtfully take the time to piece your ensemble together. After all, your style should reflect your suave confidence and personality. Now, if you’re dressed in some wrinkled slacks grey slacks, a pair of scuffed up slip-ons with an outdated pattern button-up, it says something very different about who you are. We probably don’t need to tell you that first impressions mean a lot to people who care about how the world views them. So, in celebration of World Storyteller’s Day (March 20), we’re going to dive into some elemental details of fashion and elaborate on how the choices we make manage to speak on behalf of our personalities. What compels your wardrobe choices? Regardless of how you look at it, everything about what you’re wearing at this very moment tells those around you about your personality, values and mannerisms. If you take the time to carefully select accessories that match based on their textures, tones and colors, chances are you’re probably a trend-setter, but if you’re the type of man who throws together your outfit for the day based on whatever was sitting at the top of your dresser drawer, chances are you’re not as invested in your day-to-day style. Needless to say, there’s is still something that compels you to pick up an accessory of clothing, put it on and walk out your door. So, here are a few reasons why you may be drawn to a certain look. Color: Many gentlemen are fixated on certain colors when they’re selecting an outfit to wear. Perhaps you’ve had a favorite color since you were a kid or maybe there’s a particular shade or hue that highlights your eyes, hair or skin tone. Regardless of how you try to rationalize why you choose a certain piece of clothing, you’re telling the world that you feel confident, sexy and appealing in that tincture. Comfort: Another reason some men will throw a piece of their wardrobe on for the day has a lot to do with their definition of comfort. Maybe they own a coat that drapes nicely across the chest, without having to worry about constriction. Or a warm sweater that’s so soft and cozy for a brisk winter walk. Perhaps even a pair of shoes that have already been broken in. all of the above exhibit a creature comfort that many people are drawn too when they’re making a commitment to their day’s attire. Even the biggest fashionistas are crazy about comfort, so don’t be dumb-founded if someone chooses an outfit based on how it feels. It’s also important to note that comfort can be seen in another way. You also need to feel good mentally in the style you’re flaunting. Selecting an outfit that fits well to your body type says that you appreciate your body and aren’t afraid to show the world that men come in many shapes and sizes. Style: Another thing that compels you to dress a certain way is style. If you’re an individual that’s focused on keeping up with the trends, you’re most likely driven by your inner urges to flaunt fashion-forward styles. Needless to say, that doesn’t mean you can’t select an “in” style and also consider color and comfort as secondary factors. Subconscious factors You can ignore them or embrace but there are subconscious factors about your style that tell the world your story. While the world of men’s designer fashion is exponential, your world of fashion knowledge may be much smaller. It isn’t unheard of for people to take style trends out from events in their everyday lives. For example, maybe they were out shopping at the grocery store and they noticed another man’s choice in shoes or perhaps they recently attended a group function and a few of their friends showed up in their formal outerwear. These images become imprinted in their minds and later when they’re browsing online, they may find something similar to what we saw and become triggered to buy it. Subconscious factors like the above examples show the world that you’re observant, that you’re influenced by your surroundings and that you aim to remember positive interactions. Fashion is important because it’s how you tell the world your story without needing to worry about saying a word. It’s how otherwise different people manage to communicate and how they embellish their diverse personalities. Fashion is one of the few things of the world (aside from maybe dance and music) that truly unites all humans as one. How do you use men’s designer fashion to tell the world your story?
