How to transition your closet from spring to summer

Not only do our activities change between spring and summer but our wardrobes also need a little revamping. While summer menswear doesn’t require a major overhaul from spring attire, there are still some adjustments that need to be made to prepare you for the hottest months of the year. Since there are still a few weeks left until temperatures start to rise, use this time to reorganize your closet and rotate those lightweight, breezy staple pieces to the front for an easier grab-and-go. Follow these simple steps to transition your closet for the season ahead.

Store cold-weather items

While your summer ensembles might pair well with a light sweater, the warmth of the season makes it easy to confidently pack away heavier, cold-weather items. So, aside from having an emergency pullover on hand for those chilly evenings in the mountains or a night out at an air-conditioned movie theater, you can safely store your thick sweaters, rainwear, knits, and full-length boots to make added space in your wardrobe. Aside from utilizing storage bins to stack away your winter and spring clothing and footwear, you can also invest in some vacuum seal bags to keep items smelling fresh and protect them from pests.

Organize your sunny accessories

Whether you’ll find yourself flocking to the beach to sit in the sand or go boating, or prefer those lazy days spent around the pool, summer is all about enjoying the sunshine. While fashion should also be at the forefront of your considerations list, there are many accessories that are beneficial for sunny weather, including designer hats, sandals, and even sunglasses. For your convenience, be sure to keep a compartment in your closet for these summer essentials so that you can pack your bag quickly for any type of getaway.

Frequently worn summer menswear should remain front and center

When deciding how to best organize your closet, it’s important to place lightweight cotton shirts, comfortable clothing sets, and your favorite stylized pieces at the front for easy accessibility to mix and up endless summer styles. While the foundation of your closet should consist of the essentials, it’s okay if your professional wardrobe will intermix with your casual summer menswear pieces!

Opt for lightweight and light-colored pants

Even with rising temperatures, summer is still a great time to wear full pants. To ensure that you don’t overheat in them, opt for lightweight fabrics and consider capri styles or shorts over regular-length jeans. Also, your choice can be determined based on the practicality of your summer outing—for example, if you’re spending an extended period outdoors, shorts are better suited in these settings. But within indoor areas, other types of pants and materials can still serve your needs.

By making these quick adjustments, transitioning between spring and summer is as easy as it gets in terms of closet changes.
