What clothing styles are best suited to your body type? October 29, 2018October 22, 2018 Mo Mulchandani It’s important to understand that we’re not all built the same way. Some of us have skinny waists, while other have larger shoulders — although any gentleman can look great in designer fashion. It’s best to embrace the wardrobe choices that will emphasize your body type in a positive way and ensure your prominent style. Dressing for your body type and shape allows you to adopt attention to your most beseeching physical features all while diverting attention away from your less desirable ones. We’re going to take a look at three different body types and what kind of clothing flatter them. The Triangle Arguably the most common body type for men, the triangle is used to describe men who are larger around their hips, stomach and waist, but remain narrow at the shoulders. Their torso inverts inwards and their smaller shoulders create a natural triangular shape from the base of their waist to the tip of their face. Having this body type doesn’t mean that you’re out of shape, but it can present a challenge when it comes to finding clothes that dress your entire body in a proportional way — as many mens designer brands continue to create clothing that is broad on the top and narrow at the waist. A mix of prints and solids will create a nice shape for men with triangular bodies. Perhaps wearing a patterned blazer with a pair or solid, neutral-colored pants will take the attention away from any self-consciousness of a larger waistline. The pattern on this blazer creates a streamline effect that elongates and slims down the body. Also, being that it’s a detailed, colorful wardrobe piece, it has the ability to appear as if it is broadening the upper shoulders. The neutral slacks create a slimming effect as well, especially around the midsection. The Inverted Triangle This body type has a wider shape to the shoulders with an inversion all the way down to the belly button. The chest is usually broader and the shoulders sit outwards in comparison to the hips. This muscular body type can also be hard to accommodate because of the size of the muscles. Needless to say, you would probably want to wear clothing that shows off your hard work and physique. By dressing for your body type you’re able to wear close-fitting clothing that emphasises the clean, sharp curve of your torso — this will balance out the size of your upper to lower body ratio. Slim fit, sleeveless shirts allow you to show off your broad shoulders without feeling too constricted, just remember to size up for the comfort of your shoulders. Also, button-ups and v-necks have the ability to draw the attention to your chest. While you’re at it, pair your slimming new dress shirt with an even more slimming designer jacket that follows the natural silhouette of your torso. Now that’s dressing for your body type! The Rectangle Plenty of men also have rectangular body shapes, meaning that they usually have a tall, slender frame with shoulders at the same equal distance as the hips. It’s flattering when men that have this body type wear clothing that widens their shoulders. Adding a little extra illusion to their size and structure, striped patterns are a good look for this body shape. It also adds a little nipped-in appeal to the middle of the torso, having the ability to widen the frame of the individual. Another great option for the rectangular body shape is laying color so it pops. By adding this bit of detail to the style, it will expand the dimension of the narrow body frame.
