How to keep your leather boots looking great in the rainy season

September onwards brings forth wetter and colder weather and depending on where you live, you may have to deal with rain, snow, sleet, and frigid temperatures. Any one of these conditions can impact the longevity of your designer leather boots. If you’re unsure how to care for your footwear and keep them looking dapper through the seasons, read our tips below.

Regularly clean your designer leather boots

Cleaning shoes is easy but when the footwear is made from exotic, high-quality leather, you need to make sure that you don’t use any products that may damage the integrity of the material. Start by wiping dirt off the shoe using a clean towel. If that doesn’t do the trick, we suggest using saddle soap on a damp cloth to rub and leather the dirty areas of the shoes. The simple steps above should have your footwear looking good as new in no time, and if you decide to clean them weekly, you should have no problem keeping them looking shiny.

Remove the salt stains from your designer leather boots

Winter sidewalks receive a regular dusting of salt to prevent people from sliding on ice. While this is great for potential slip-and-falls, it isn’t good for your designer leather boots. That said, it’s easy to get rid of salt stains with white vinegar and water. Simply dip a soft cloth into a 50/50 mix of this homemade solution and wipe off the strains. They should vanish quickly and leave behind a vibrant shine.

Waterproof your designer leather boots

The rainy season is upon us and with the added moisture in the air and on the ground, the best way to keep your feet dry is by ensuring that your designer leather boots are functionally waterproof. As part of regular maintenance, you can easily prevent damage by using the waterproof spray as a protective barrier between your feet and the elements. Keep in mind that your shoes should be clean and dry before the spray is applied.

Give your designer leather boots a shine

Regardless of the type of leather your boots are made from, they deserve a shine now and again to keep them looking their best. That said, the shoe shine you choose needs to match the color of your boot to avoid overstaining.
