How to prepare your closet for summer

The warm weather is here to stay… at least for the season! While some gents are lucky enough to have a huge walk-in closet, others make do with a vibrant wardrobe that they can interchange based on the weather. So, if you haven’t taken your summer attire out of hibernation, it’s time to start swapping those seasonal pieces to make the outfit selection breezy and quick. Continue reading for some suggestions to get you started.

Pack away your winter clothes

While it can be easy to get excited about the warm temperatures just outside your doors, the first thing you need to do to prepare your closet for the season ahead is to pack away those fall and winter wears to make room for your smart, casual, summer menswear picks

Here are some things you can also do during the packing process:

  • Pack away your bulky items in vacuum-sealed bags for a more compact closet
  • Purge old or unused items by donating them
  • Wash the items that you’re planning on storing away so that everything is fresh and clean when it comes time to wear them again
  • The best way to store your heavier sweaters is by folding and placing them into durable storage bins to avoid stretching
  • Keep your designer shoes from getting squished or misshapen by storing them in boxes or by gently tucking them in plastic bins.

NOTE: Be sure to hold onto a few light jackets for those chilly nights.

Get your closet ready for the season

Whether you are making room for some new smart, casual, summer menswear items or you simply enjoy the quarterly purge between seasons, it’s always good to dedicate some time to organize your closet space.

Here are some suggestions we have for those who want to prepare their closets for the upcoming summer months:

  • Once you’ve removed and packed away your winter wears, before you re-hang your summer items, take the time to deep clean your closet by dusting its shelves, wiping out drawers, and vacuuming the floor space.
  • After hanging and organizing all of your current items, take inventory of what you have. Are there any items that you want currently missing from your closet? Do you still need to replace your outdated designer sandals? Make a list, set a budget, and go shopping for some smart, casual summer menswear
  • While this suggestion isn’t for everyone, some men enjoy taking the time to categorize their wardrobe by designating sections of the closet space for certain items. Being organized makes life less stressful and it can help speed up wardrobe swaps throughout the day.
