Investing in a wardrobe is like anything else, which is why you want to take care of each item so that it will last. Thus, if you’re hoping to learn more about how to be diligent and responsible for the attention to detail of your ever-growing wardrobe, then be sure to make note of the simple ways that you can conserve your fine men’s clothing

Reorganize your pieces

Before you invest in new, seasonal garments, we recommend launching a full-scale organization of your closet and dresser. Consider selling some of your statement pieces to attain extra funds that can be used towards fine men’s clothing purchases and if you’re unsuccessful in slimming your wardrobe this way, other items can be donated. Select segments of your wardrobe that you hardly wear or possibly even a portion that may have been purchased for a specific purpose (ex. Halloween costume). There are exceptions to the above rule such as wedding attire, custom tuxedos, and other timeless, special-occasion garments that may go unused for most of the year, but are great to have on-hand when they’re needed.

Improve the layout or design of your ensemble’s items

Most of us stuff new apparel into the depths of our closet space without implementing any sort of functionality, which often leaves many items to go unused or forgotten, as they become pushed further back from the day-to-day wear. So, a great way to combat this is by improving the layout and design of your wardrobe space by organizing it into a logical and functional storage space. For example, it would make finding things much easier if you kept types together, which means that grouping designer dress shirts in one area and further sorting them based on color and length. Also, another skillful way to organize your closet is to keep the items that you wear most often upfront and center for simplistic access. This could include your favorite business styled essentials or even your activewear that you use for your daily runs.

Have a cleaning schedule to improve garment longevity

The durability and endurance of your ensembles are very dependent on keeping that clean. So, one of the most important things that you can do for your designer pieces is to regularly wear and wash the items by rotating knits daily. Aside from keeping the attire looking fresh and smelling great, clean clothing also keeps the moths away and helps to maintain the texture and color of your fabrics. The only exception to this rule is suits, as they do not need to be cleaned after each use. Simply leave your suit on a hanger out of the closet and then put it away after 24 hours or so.

How should you be storing your designer items?

You may love your clothing, but do you adore the pieces enough to learn how they should be stored? Each item’s preservation is determined by how it’s placed into your wardrobe, so don’t overcrowd your closet by doubling up hangers, follow these rules instead.

  • Designer suits: Store on a full-bodied hanger to allow the garment to support its natural shape.
  • Designer shirts: Use a plastic hanger, as they’re more chemically stable and resistant for the assortment of fabrics.
  • Designer pants: Fold your slacks over the hanger to prevent unwanted creases and keep them ready to wear while sitting in your storage.
  • Designer sweaters: Your knits should be folded to avoid stretching over time.
