Which fabric colors best complement your skin tone?

While you may be drawn to certain colors on the clothing rack, it’s important to take into account that some hues and tones won’t look as clean and fresh as others, and that isn’t because those stylish pieces don’t belong in a fashion-forward wardrobe. While an element like your hairstyle can complement a certain trend, your skin tone also accompanies which colors will make you look alluring. So, it’s always good to acquaint yourself with the fundamental rules of fashion by determining colors that make you stand out rather than flushing your natural hues. So, before you buy, is your skin tone fair, olive, or dark?

Do you have fair skin?

Men that have light brown, blonde or red hair are also likely to possess pale skin and lighter features. This means that when they’re on the hunt for some hues to contrast with their skin tone, it’s important to bring forth some color to brighten up their complexion while also adding dark undertones to complement the outfit. For example, fair-skinned men should select dark base colors to properly layout their ensembles. Darker shades of greys, browns, reds, greens, and navy offer a bold contrast and a fulfilling look when paired with rich tones, such as camel, khaki, and slate grey, to work as an accessorized touch to finish off their stylish demeanor.

What should you avoid wearing?

Just because men’s designer clothing comes in a range of styles and colors, doesn’t mean that everything possesses the same power to compliment you. In fact, men with pale skin should avoid colors that will wash them out, such bright neutral tones like white, light beige, and stone.

Do you have olive skin?

Men with medium skin tones tend to fluctuate depending on sun exposure, although olive-toned skin offers a smooth, warm complexion that suits a wide spectrum of colors! If you possess a natural bronzing in your complexion, you can opt for shades that swing either way, bright and vivid or dark and intense. That being said, if you want the ultimate, standout look, outside of sunnier seasons, you can sport a pair of white jeans with a dark, bold jacket to accentuate your skin tone using both color palettes.

What should you avoid wearing?

If you’re a man who wants to avoid looking nude or choosing colors that closely blend to your skin tone it’s best to avoid greens and yellows (including pistachio, mustard, and mocha brown), as these colors closely represent shades of your olive skin tone. However, keep in mind that since your skin can tan easier than others, you may be able to pull off different shades throughout the year without looking washed out.

Do you have dark skin?

Similar to men with medium-toned skin, when it comes to finding the colors that best compliment your darker tones, you have endless options of hues and shades. The color of your skin will allow you to embellish the vast majority of saturated brilliance without appearing washed out like those with paler tones. In fact, the darker your skin the easier it’s to pull off flashy colors, which makes your shopping for men’s designer clothing that much more exciting! Although, while you can almost pull off anything and everything, it’s still important to balance the colors in your outfit by providing a few pops that complement the color wheel so your accessories aren’t forced to compete with each other.

What should you avoid wearing?

While your complexion has a vast variety of complementary colors, standard brown is a shade that’s pretty much a no-go. Also, while black and deep navy can be two key colors to make up the men’s designer clothing wardrobe of those with light to medium skin tones, your formal wear should include these colors, but not solely. With such a versatile skin tone, you have more options for self-expression and should avoid simplistic dressing styles by going for confidence with suits and blazers that are bright and powerful.
